The Eccentric Family
This series summed itself up perfectly, so i’ll open with that;
“As long as we’re all living, as long as we’re all having fun, that should do it, right? We’re tanuki. If someone were to ask me how tanuki should live their lives, this is how I would answer. The tanuki wriggling about in Kyoto should abandon their ambitions, as all we have to do is to lead a fun and interesting life…and this is mine.”
It’s obviously a show about tanuki (the cute little raccoon dogs of Japanese folklore) and what they get up to in their day to day lives. The series is as full of cultural references as it is tongue-in-cheek fun , and what with how almost all the characters are tengu or tanuki, the acting really drives home just how wonderful the series is, what with…(gasp) how they actually act like what they’re meant to be! I’ve seen more than enough shows and read more than enough novels about non-humans, and to see them actually being non-human is a really delightful experience.
Rozen Maiden Season 3
Rozen Maiden’s new series is strange as all living hell, because the first episode was this vague recap that wasn’t a recap. It covered the entirety of the first two seasons, which had those really strange moments and really strange characters which I wasn’t sure if I liked or not. However, starting from the second episode, it blows the plot and the setting away into a completely alternate reality/retelling that I think I’ve ever seen.
Well, I guess I’ll start this off. I went into this show completely blind, and all I can say is that I was gladly impressed with the first episode. Though I feel like not as much as some people. Why am I always so hopelessly optimistic? Continue reading
Rozen Maiden 2013
Yeah, I watched the original, and i’ll be the first to admit I have no clue what happened here. I think it was a recap, and I was able to roughly follow it (regardless of the terrible pacing…I have no idea how much content was here, but it was at least 6 times too much) until it got to that bit at the end, which is where I think it breaks off?
In Kyoto, there are three kinds of residents: humans, tanuki, and tengu. The premise isn’t much, but this show knocked the competition out the way for the best first episode that i’ve seen. Even though it came with unimpressive art and a musical score that’s not exactly top notch.
Chihayafuru Season 2
Being a man, it’s not very often that I get to appreciate beautiful things and moments which take my breath away. Thankfully, Chihayafuru is one of those things.
Episode 01 / First Impressions
I’m completely ignoring the scene at the beginning. It’s just another reason why I’m not 100% sure on whether I’ll even continue watching this.
-Welcome to Despair Academy-
In a Winter season that left much to be desired, the saving graces were the 2-cour shows from the Fall season, and among those, Psycho-Pass is one of the two that stood out for me.
This anime is one of the happiest, cutest and sweetest animes I’ve watched! And I love it.
The thing I love about this show is that even when it isn’t providing, Kuroko’s voice will keep me coming back.
